Awards & Recognition

  • OBIE Award for Nancy Opel's performance in My Deah by John Epperson, 2006–2007 season.

  • Nominated for "Best Theatrical Entertainment" for Texas Homos by Jan Buttram by H/X Magazine, 2005–2006 season.

  • Abingdon developed and produced over 77 new American plays throughout our twenty-year history.

  • Notable second productions include: Leap by John Yearley, produced at Cincinnati Playhouse-in-the-Park; Daisy in the Dreamtime by Lynne Kaufman, produced at The Fountain Theatre in Los Angeles and The Golden Fish Theatre in Seattle, Washington.

  • Five productions originally produced by Abingdon transferred to Off-Broadway runs: Texas Homos, Dance with Me, Private Battles, Zona (The Ghost of the Greenbrier), and Teddy Tonight!

  • Samuel French published Beachwood Drive by Stephen Leigh Morris; The Goldman Project by Staci Swedeen; My Deah by John Epperson; The Frugal Repast by Ron Hirsen; and The Parker Family Circus by Jan Buttram.

  • Plays published in anthologies: Texas Homos by Jan Buttram, Smith and Kraus in "New Playwrights, Best Plays of 2004–2005;" War in Paramus by Barbara Dana, Smith and Kraus in "Best Plays by Women 2005;" Daisy in the Dreamtime by Lynne Kaufman, Smith and Kraus in "Best Plays by Women 2003," The Mooncalf by Elisabeth Karlin, Smith and Kraus in "Best Scenes of 2001;".

  • In 2001, established the Christopher Brian Wolk Award to honor the best play submitted each season. Abingdon presents a Staged Reading of the play at a special ceremony where we honor the playwright and award him/her a $1,000 prize. Frank Tangredi's play Pastoral was optioned by a commercial producer after winning the Christopher Brian Wolk Award in 2008.
