Playwright FAQs

I'm an unpublished playwright with little or no production credits. Will you consider my script?

Yes, under these conditions: Playwrights must be American citizens or have permanent resident status. The script must be full-length with a running time of at least 75 minutes. The script cannot have been previously produced for review in New York City.

How do I submit my script?

For our Submission Guidelines, click here.

How do I submit a script for the Christopher Brian Wolk Award?

Every script that is received by Abingdon is automatically considered for the Christopher Brian Wolk Award. Click here to see the Christopher Wolk Award page for complete details.

What are your criteria for choosing scripts?

Abingdon has no biases on subject matter or style of production. We are interested simply in the best writing and the best stories incorporating fascinating, passionate characters pursuing goals that are vital to them.

Do you have a limit of cast size?

A maximum of eight actors; character doubling is fine.

Do you accept musicals?

No.

May I submit my script by email?

No. Please see submission guidelines above.

May I submit more than one script at a time?

Playwrights may submit one and only one script for each submission cycle. The submission cycle is June 2 one year to June 1 the next (e.g., June 2, 2008 to June 1, 2009).

How do I know you received my script?

We will email you within a week of receipt. If you do NOT have an email address, you must include a SAS postcard or envelope to receive a receipt acknowledgement.

How soon after submitting my script will I get a response?

You will get a email acknowledgement of receipt within a week. Generally, you should hear whether we are interested in your script within six months.

If you do accept my script, what is the next step?

The next step is consideration for our First Reading Series. Because we have an extraordinary number of scripts under consideration, you can expect a considerable delay in this part of the process. If you move or your contact information changes, please keep us updated so we can contact you easily.
