Abingdon supports American playwrights working with them in developing full-length scripts. Abingdon was founded for that very purpose: to develop new plays by American playwrights.

We operate on an open-submission policy. If you are an American playwright whose script has NOT been previously produced in the New York City metropolitan area, for critical review, your work is welcome here.

Agents are also encouraged to submit their clients' work. We produce under Equity’s Letter of Agreement contract for Mainstage Productions and Equity’s Seasonal Showcase Code agreement for Studio Productions.

If a script is selected for development by Abingdon, it will be scheduled for a First Reading so that the playwright and audience may hear the text read by professional actors, and participate in a post-reading discussion.

For more information on our script development process, please read our Mission page.
