Rental FAQ

What performance spaces do you have?
We have two theatres, the 98-seat proscenium June Havoc Theatre and the 56-seat flexible blackbox Dorothy Strelsin Theatre.

How big are your stages?
June Havoc Theatre stage is 21'X17' with proscenium opening of 12'8" and a grid 13'8" high. Dorothy Strelsin Theatre stage is 15'X13' and a grid height of 11'9".

Do you rent hourly/daily/weekly?
Yes. Our theatres are available for performances, readings, rehearsals, auditions, classes as well as non-theatre activities such as film/video/photo shoots, seminars, corporate meetings, etc.

Do weekly renters get 24 hour, exclusive access?
No. Weekly renter access hours are listed on the individual theatres' information page. Other hours can be negotiated. Call to discuss your particular event's needs.

Do you have rehearsal space?
We rent our theatres for rehearsal. We also have a 20'X18' rehearsal studio.

How can I see your theatres?
Please call us to make an appointment. Our offices are open 10AM-6PM,
Monday through Friday.

Where are you located?
We are located in midtown Manhattan (in the Fashion District) at 312 West 36th Street, First Floor, between 8th and 9th Avenues. Convenient to all subways, West Side buses, Penn Station and Port Authority.

Are your spaces available for non-theatre events?
Yes. Our theatres have been used for film/video/photo shoots, as well as classes, screenings, seminars, corporate meetings, etc.

Are your theatres usable for dance concerts?
We have limited resources for dance concerts. Contact us for the specifics of your needs.

Can I do a film/video/photography shoot in your space?
Yes, please contact us for answers for your specific needs.

Do you have a piano for rent?
Yes. We have a Yamaha upright studio piano purchased new in 2005.

Do I have to hire your staff when I rent your theatre?
No. If you need staffing for your production, we can provide a list of qualified technicians, production and front-of-house staff.

What are your prices?
Please contact us for updated pricing based on your needs.

What forms of payment do you accept?
We accept cash or checks. We cannot process credit cards for rental payments.

Is your theatre handicap-accessible?
Yes. Abingdon's theatres have full elevator access and handicap-accessible restrooms.

Do you have furniture, costumes or properties available for rent?
We have chairs, tables and rehearsal cubes. We do not have costumes or props available.

Do I have to have liability insurance to use your space?
Weekly renters must have liability insurance.

Do you offer a discount for non-profit 501(c)3 organizations?
Yes. Non-profit organizations that rent our theatres by the week do receive a discount.

Do you have a lighting and/or sound system in your theatre,
or do I have to bring them in?

Yes. Our theatres come equipped with complete lighting and sound systems.

Can I have a reception before or after my performances?
Yes. Our June Havoc Theatre comes with a 500 sq. ft. lobby complete with concession stand and floor-to-ceiling windows.
